The last group has left, leaves have been raked, re raked and raked again. The roofs have been cleaned off and the water has been turned off in preparation for winter. It’s been a busy fall. We’ve hosted weddings, fund raisers, a sorority gathering, a retirement party, a rehearsal dinner, and several school groups. A feature length film, (Secrets of the Fall –  to be released this spring) was filmed here. I think everyone had fun and I know all appreciated the quiet magic and beauty that is Camp Pinnacle.

We're fixing up the Putt Putt course

We won’t rest this winter, there is simply too much to do! Returning campers are going to see a much improved camp! Several members of the Adventure Treks school group team who taught outdoor education to over 700 students this fall are still here, hard at work, painting the many buildings of camp. We won’t get everything painted this fall (or next spring) but we have gotten a great start on things. Camp looks better every single day. We’ve repainted the dining room and are busy painting beds and floors on the boys’ side. At least 5 more cabins have new coats of paint!

Tom and Nick have been busy this fall.  They have remodeled cabins A and B (Now Tsali and Cove Creek) and they will be ready to go for the summer.  They have built a fence below the pickle ball courts (no more balls in the lake)  a new deck by the waterfront, a ferry to take campers across the lake, remodeled the maintenance shop and built a porch outside the Boys’ bathhouse.  Tom is also rebuilding the putt putt course in all of his spare time!

This weekend is family workday and several Camp Pinnacle and Adventure Treks families will converge on Camp Pinnacle for more painting, trail maintenance and continued general upkeep. Thanks for helping out!

It's going to be fast!

With the day to day camp maintenance on hold until spring, Tom and Nick are ready to move ahead with countless projects. They love the job security of knowing the project list is several years long. We are already a year ahead of our renovation schedule and we may get further ahead if weather permits.

Water slide parts await assembly

The most exciting project this fall is the new 210 foot water slide. It will be installed on the
other end of the lake and should be the best summer camp water slide in North Carolina. Early reports are that it’s going to be fast! We are wondering who is going to be the first person down the new slide! (it will be winter) We will have a contest to name this new slide, so start thinking up names.

We are building a new deck over the lake below the volleyball court. This will replace an aging boardwalk and be a great site for fishing by day and evening meeting at night.

Look how straight the new roof is!

Besides a coat of paint, the gym is getting a new copper colored tin roof. Much work has been spent straightening out the roof and restoring it to its former grandeur. The waterfront gym will once again be the true centerpiece of camp. We have much more on the docket: two new porches on the girls’ side and 4 new porches on the boys’ side. We will also be renovating a second girls’ bathroom

Trail Dynamics will be completing phase two of our mountain biking trails (adding another mile or so) Rides in 2013 will be longer and even more exciting.

Of course there will be new mountain bikes, stand up paddleboards, canoes and other great toys. Look for a new water trampoline and many more fun ways to enjoy camp in 2013.

We will have even more to announce in the New Year. As for now, we are staying busy and we wish you a fantastic Thanksgiving. We are thankful for the opportunity to be able to return fantastic Camp Pinnacle back to her former glory!
