As soon as you register for camp, you will want to begin planning transportation to and from camp. Please read this section carefully to help you prepare for the upcoming summer. As parents, please consider vacationing in western North Carolina for a few days while your child is under our care. Here are some links to great things to do in our area.
Please make your airline reservation early to ensure that your camper will arrive and depart camp on the correct arrival and departure date. We are unable to accommodate early arrivals or late departures. Please contact our office immediately if you have special circumstances.
Please arrange for travel to one of three airports:
Campers who are flying should plan to land at their arrival airport by noon on arrival day. It is always best to choose the first flight of the day so if there are any delays, your camper can stay on schedule. If your camper does experience a delayed flight or a missed connection, we'll be sure to meet the new flight, regardless of arrival time. Please schedule your child's departure flight between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on departure day. (CLT is two hours away so a departure earlier than 10:00 a.m. creates a very early wake up for your and others' children)
If you have difficulty finding flight schedules that match these times, please contact our office.
Unless accompanied by an adult, most campers under 12 will be flying as an "Unaccompanied Minor" (UM). Check with your airline for specific UM policies. Parents are responsible for all UM and baggage fees.
If flying UM, we will email you the name and contact information of the staff member who will be greeting your camper at the gate (two days before their arrival day). Please understand that we are unable to give you the names of specific greeters before this time. If you must give the airlines a name, try "Camp Pinnacle Representative" first. If the airlines insist on a specific name, use the name of our Travel coordinator, Hoyle Adams. Please understand it is unlikely that Hoyle will actually be greeting your flight. You will need to change the name to the appropriate greeter two days out.
Once you have your camper's travel itinerary, please log in to your CampInTouch profile and complete your Travel Form. If you are flying with your camper please make sure to let our office know this. If you are flying with your camper and then driving him or her to camp, please list your arrival to camp as an "Arrival by Car."
If your camper is flying home at the end of camp as an Unaccompanied Minor, please purchase a return Unaccompanied Minor ticket and designate "Camp Pinnacle Representative" as the person taking your child to the airport. Please send money with your camper for any airport/baggage fees for their return home. Please also let us know the exact name(s) of the person who will be greeting your child at his or her final destination.
Camp Pinnacle is located at 1 Wolfe Lake Drive in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Directions can be found from any location on Google Maps, mapquest or VZ Navigator.
If driving, please plan to arrive between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on arrival day.
If you plan to pick up your camper from camp by car, on departure day, camp will open to parents at 9:00 a.m. Please join us for our fun and informative closing ceremony in the Council Ring at 10:00 a.m. There will be an additional closing ceremony for Pinnacle Explorers at 9:30 a.m. in the Lakeside Amphitheater. Please arrive at camp by 9:45 a.m. to guarantee seating for the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony will be approximately 45 minutes long.
If your camper is flying to camp, it may be in your best interest to ship the trunk to camp separately. Your camper's trunk will be placed in his or her cabin prior to opening day. To ensure that your camper's trunk arrives to camp on time, please contact your local UPS or Fed Ex store. We will be happy to ship your camper's luggage home at the end of the session. To make arrangements for this, please contact our office prior to your camper's session.
