Job Description

Counselors are expected to be excellent role models as they teach a variety of outdoor skills and foster a close community.  Session size is generally 70 campers with 18 counselors.  Outdoor skills taught include: backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, cooking, orienteering, Leave No Trace concepts, and general environmental eduction.  You will live in a cabin with campers of the same gender who remain under your supervision.  During each session, the counselor team works closely together to coordinate all aspects of the session including: instruction in all outdoor activites, risk managment, mananging group dynamics, menu planning, laundry, transportaion, coordinating with outfitters, maintaining equipment, and handling medical issues.  Counselors receive support while at camp from the Directors.
 

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • Completed 1 year of college and/or completed Leadership Summit with Adventure Treks
  • Several years experience working with children
  • True concern for students' growth
  • Solid outdoor skills in a variety of activities
  • Experience with Leave No Trace principles
  • A clean driving record
  • Ability to work with little time off and limited personal time

Once we recieve your resume, we will mail or email you an application packet.  This packet will include our current promotional materials to help you better understand what makes Camp Pinnacle unique.  Once we receive your completed application and skills assessment, we can begin our extensive interview process.  The interview process includes two to three interviews to ensure we are a good match for each other.  We will also check your references and perform a background check.   This hiring process is time-intensive, but we have found it to be the best way to create incredible counselor teams.  Most counselor applicants are impressed with the thoroughness of our interview process.
