Boys Program Description

Girls Program Description

Adventure Trek is Camp Pinnacle’s Premier program for boys ages 13 to 15 years old who have a strong desire to build upon outdoor skills introduced in Camp and practice these skills in a true wilderness environment. Experienced, professional instructors direct the program. Almost every night of the Trek will be spent backcountry camping in beautiful wilderness areas in western North Carolina and Tennessee. The trek is divided into three main segments: backpacking, rock climbing, and whitewater boating. Participants who have completed past Adventure Treks have clearly gained new appreciation for the wilderness experience and have become deftly proficient in many skill areas.

Adventure Trek is designed to be very physically demanding and is designed for boys in good physical condition. Our backpacking trip is over 50 miles long in rugged mountains with changing weather conditions. A strong desire to enroll in the program and a good attitude are important. If you are planning on going with us, just a few weeks of regular aerobic exercise (running, swimming, etc.) along with a healthy diet will be a great jump-start to the program.

Please feel free to contact Drew Dekle, Program Coordinator and Head Guide at (706) 354-8060 or via email with any questions that you may have about Adventure Trek.

This year we are inviting a select number of girls to participate in Camp Pinnacle’s first annual Girl’s Adventure Week.  This program will include everything you love about camp – rekindling relationships with old friends, activities at camp, dances, Mountain Beach Party, etc., however, the second week of camp will be spent on one awesome trip of a lifetime!

Our tentative agenda for the 2nd week of camp is as follows:

June 13/14/15
3 days of backpacking on the Appalachian Trail – We will hike from Standing Indian Mountain – the site of North Carolina’s largest tree (the Waslik Poplar) to Bryson City N.C.  This moderate backpacking trip (25 miles) of about of mostly ridge walking crosses beautiful streams and rivers and features wonderful views from high ridges.  We will learn a bit of forest history, and develop skills including map and compass orienteering, backcountry cooking--yummy food--, and much more.

June 16
Our backpacking trip will terminate in Wesser, N.C. (near Bryson City) where the AT crosses the Nantahala River prior to its ascent into the Smokeys.  Here, the girls will relax at the Lost Mine Campground (complete with hot showers) and enjoy a hearty breakfast at River’s End Restaurant before taking on the Nantahala River Whitewater with our trained staff.  The girls will have a choice of kayaks (for those with experience) or “fun-yaks” – for an easier, super-fun and relaxing river float.

June 17/18
Next, the group will proceed to Table Rock North Carolina (in a waiting van) for an exciting two-day camping and rock-climbing trip.  As a professional rock-climbing instructor with many years of experience, I can guarantee a really amazing time in the Table Rock / Linville Gorge area – just the incredible views and photo opportunities are incredible!

June 19
At the end of the week, we will return to Camp Pinnacle for a special Campfire in honor of the participants with many great stories and memories to share for the balance of the session in camp and for year’s to come.
